Elizabeth Fitzgerald Carter
Elizabeth explores rivers and the sea in figurative oil and acrylic painting and also in abstract work that expresses deeper layers of the story. Her work is bold in terms of colour and textures seeking to encapsulate light and meaning. Elizabeth has a BA(Hons)Fine Art from Anglia Ruskin University. She works from the Isle of Luing, Scotland and her studio in Norfolk, England and exhibits at The Jetty Gallery in Oban and at various Norfolk venues. NOTE studio closed on Monday 19th, Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st.

Getting to Luing
Luing is accessible by a 5 min ferry trip (frequent sailings) from North Cuan on Seil with wonderful views of Mull.

From the ferry slipway follow the road until you cross a cattlegrid and decend a steep hill with the fire station and the turning for Cullipool on your right. Keep straight on over another cattle grid passing the school on your left, the church on your right until to come to the churchyard on the left with the ruined church. Keep going over another cattle grid, then a sharp turn left down the hill before turning left into Toberonochy at the bottom. Parking is on the left before you get to the village green. Be aware of uneven driving surfaces, farm vehicles and cattle/sheep on the roads.
Visiting the Studio.
The cottage is the first 1 1/2 storied property to the right of the village green. A red dot sign will mark the gateway.
Paintings are available to view at other times of the year by appointment, on my website http://www.izycarterartist.com and are also available from The Jetty Gallery in Oban.
Access: There are three steep steps up to the front door of the cottage and a narrow entrance.
Eating, Drinking & Loos
The Atlantic Islands Centre in Cullipool sells amazing cakes as well as coffees, teas, soft drinks, beers and wine. Lunches include local shellfish and meat. Check their webpage https://isleofluing.org/atlantic-islands-centre for opening times and menu. There are toilets at Cullipool Village Hall.
Luing
The island is a thriving working community with an interesting history of slate quarrying and archaeology. There are good short walks on and around the island with a walking leaflet available from the AIC and the island shop at Fladdha.
If you are lucky you may see seals, otters, amazing birdlife or even an eagle as the unspoilt coast around Luing is a mecca for wildlife.
