Karen Blake

Biography/Description

Karen Blake explores the elements that animate a place – water, wind, weather, geology, people, animals. Her current work is inspired by the sea, its storms and calms; and by birds in the landscape, their flight and song, their presences and absences. Her paintings are mostly semi-abstract and often gestural. Her work is rooted in the West coast of Scotland. She draws, paints, creates books and interventions in the landscape.

Directions: DO NOT RELY ON GOOGLE MAPS
From Tarbert, head south for 12 miles on the A83.
South Lodge, Ronachan is a mile and a quarter south of Clachan.
Take the third road on the right after the sign ending the Clachan 40 mph speed limit.
Just over a mile on, as you come down the hill with the sea and bay visible on the right, you will see the coned tower of South Lodge. Slow down to turn right as it is a sharpish turn.
The studio, known as the Midden, will be signed. If you miss the turning, please continue 60m, then turn in the public car park on the right.

PARKING: If possible, please leave your car in this car park to avoid any congestion at South Lodge. From it you can access the shore and views of the seals that often lounge on the rocks.

Buses: (926) will stop at Ronachan South Lodge. Be sure the driver knows that you want the South entrance (not the North entrance) to Ronachan.
