Alastair Buchan
Alastair is a painter of landscapes in thickly applied oils, aiming for a naïve, even childlike simplicity that asks of the viewer nothing but their attention. He approaches the canvas with almost no preconceived notions of what he might want to paint: a piece might begin by following the lines left from a thin, drying burnt umber ground, or with a few random gestures in black. In so doing, he hopes to remove the obstacle of self-expression and clear the way for something more significant to emerge.
