Taynish National Nature Reserve – poets seat booklets

Published by Brian Barker on

Every year many people wander through the beautiful Taynish oakwoods and discover the poet’s seat – a beautiful stone seat situated overlooking Loch Sween with a gentle burn trickling behind. The spot has been described as ‘magical’ and is a favourite spot on the reserve for its peacefulness and stunning views across the sea loch.

Beside the bench is a small wooden box with a booklet for writing thoughts, feelings, poems, drawings… whatever the visitor wishes within it. When the book gets full the reserve and local artists publish the booklets which are attached here for all to enjoy.

Taynish is a special place to many, with the poets seat being a real highlight. This spot really is a fine example of what creativity and mindfulness can be drawn from simply providing a pen and paper in an inspiring, peaceful spot allowing passers-by to stop for five minutes and seeing where their mind takes them…

Download the books for 2025, 2023/24 and 2022/23 or visit the NatureScot web site to read more about Taynish and to view the books from previous years.
