Year of Coast and Waters 2020 – an opportunity for Argyll artists

Published by Brian Barker on

Under the auspices of Year of Coast & Waters 2020 we’d like to share a project proposal that may interest you. Textile artist Jessica Giannotti is based at SAMS, (Scottish Association for Marine Science) Dunbeg, near Oban.

She is currently researching the possibility of managing a mural project installed around the Hebrides Building (her studio building) within the SAMS campus. The mural will interpret the theme of Coast & Waters focusing on the natural history and ecology both locally and globally.

Plans are in their infancy but we are looking for artists who may be interested in being involved from the inception of this project.  Even if you do not wish to be directly involved, we would appreciate any recommendations you could share regarding other creatives who may be interested.  Artists do not need to be ‘local’ to the project and may have a range of ideas about what constitutes a ‘mural’. This project could involve a single artist or a group, it has potential for community involvement. All ideas and contacts are very much appreciated.

SAMS is a growing UHI campus within a rapidly expanding village, encompassing both local and tourist facilities and attractions including the Ocean Explorer Centre and the campus nursery. The campus is also adjacent to Dunstaffnage Castle which means that the proposed site benefits from a variety of passing visitors. If you would like to know more, or if you have contacts to share, please get in touch…… with Val and Jessica at mural@crubag.co.uk

Thank you !
